Shinnecock & Peconic Report 4-24-22

Conditions are improving daily and the fish are beginning to cooperate. The back bay areas of both Shinnecock and Peconic bays are both seeing schoolie bass and weakfish being landed. Some just keeper size bass have been reported in the mix too. They are taking small paddle tail baits on a slow retrieve. The mag darters are working too. The fish are generally on the bottom and still a bit lethargic so any bait worked just off the bottom is the best choice. The surf should have some migrating schoolies lurking during the early morning and night tides. The fluke and porgies should be making a showing any day now if they haven't already out in the Peconics. The Shinnecock and Quogue canals usually see the first reports in our area so stay tuned in. We are ready and stocked with all in season baits and will be increasing our hours beginning next weekend to 7-6 Sat, 7-3 Sun and 8-6 weekdays.
