Shinnecock & Peconic fishing is ON! 4-23-23

The bite improves each day dramatically. More like mid May action happening now. The striped bass have been spread throughout the area including the south race in Peconic, Shinnecock canal, Quogue canal and along the ocean beaches both east and west of the Shinnecock inlet to name a few. The main baits being used have been paddle tail soft plastics, large Magdarters and swimming plugs like SPs and Hydros. Plenty of fish in the slot range. The weakfish have been lurking for a bit too. Reports of catches have come from out near Jessups in the Peconics, Shinnecock canal and Quogue canal. Soft plastics or hi-lo rigs with squid work great on the weaks. The porgies have made their way to the deeper waters of the Peconics out near Jessups. Water needs to warm a bit before we see them near our shores. Last but not least, the big bluefish have just shown up in the Shinnecock canal. This means the alligator blues should be holding in our inlets for a bit providing great action for most throwing a popper or tin.
