IT'S ON!!!! 5-2-21
Great week with both air and water temperatures rising enough to kick our season into gear. The Shinnecock canal has been very productive with schoolie bass, weakfish, bluefish and fluke which opens the 4th. Best bet on the weakies, bass and blues is to be there when the locks are just closing or just opened. Slow moving current is better. Rubber bait on leadheads doing the job. The fluke is best when the locks are closed and able to hold bottom. The Shinnecock inlet's jetties have seen some schoolie bass as well as the Big bluefish. Blues will take most anything offered while the bass are taking bucktails. Over in the Peconics the weakfish, bluefish, schoolie bass and porgies have all been cooperating this weekend. The boats were out targeting the porgies around Jessups Neck and had a good amount of weakfish mixed in. Good amounts of porgies were taken too. With the fluke being found in the Shinnecock canal I would have to say that they are most likely in the flats of the bays chasing bait in the warmer water and should be there for opening day. The back bay areas continue to produce some schoolie bass but the bluefish have moved in here too.
