East End BT Report 7-12-2

Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean

The fluke bite continued to improve through the week due to the bait moving into the bay. The bite is both east and west of the bridge and best at the turn of the tides. Squid, spearing and gulp bait all working. The fluke are showing in the ocean too around the reef. Seabass on the reef and local pieces remains solid with a good amount of keepers making it to the box. Clams and jigs doing well. The trigger fish are here and making a good showing around the buoy chains and local pcs. Small heavy shank hooks with squid or clam for baits.The bluefish are still out on the bunker schools and chasing bait in the bay but no where near as ferocious as it was a few weeks ago. The striped bass are thinning to the normal summer time bite with schoolie bass and a few keepers taking live baits drifted in the inlet and near the bridge. The bigger fish that were here are in the rips off Montauk and off of Block Island

Peconic

The best bite through the summer is porgies taking clam and worm baits. The weakfish summer in the deeper cooler holes of the bay. Weakfish take jigs and flags of squid on hi-lo rigs and you will also catch them when targeting the porgies.

Shorebound

The jetty of the Shinnecock inlet has seen fluke, striped bass, bluefish and triggerfish. The bass have been in the dark on bucktails with a few keepers to keep you interested. The Ponquogue bridge has fluke, porgies, bluefish and some schoolie bass in the dark on rubber shads. Along the ocean beaches the bait has been the winner over lures. Clams and sand flees have done well with the bass with an occasional keeper. The Shinnecock canal is serving up porgies at the north end and a mix of a few fluke, blowfish, cocktail blues and schoolie bass. Bass and blues have been on the dawn or dusk tides. Snappers will show beginning at the end of the month in most areas.
