Fishing Report 6-28-20

Shinnecock bay/inlet/ocean

The Shinnecock bay has plenty of fluke action throughout the bay but keepers are a grind to find. Just enough keepers to keep your interest. Skinny, warmer water has been best. Squid/spearing combos and gulp all working. The bunker schools out in the ocean are still producing trophy striped bass if you can find the right school otherwise its bluefish you will tangle with. There are a few keeper bass failing for drifted live baits in the inlet or near the bridge.Out on the Shinnecock reef the sea bass have been cooperating. Many boats are coming home with their limits.

Peconics

Weakfish are in the deeper holes in the eastern bay areas and taking flags of squid. Porgies are in the regular summertime spots of Rogers rock and Jessups Neck.

Shorebound

The Shinnecock inlet has been producing some good striped bass on the night tides and falling for bucktails. The bluefish have been regular resident of the inlet for the past month, a welcome sight after their disappearance the last couple of years. They are taking tins, bucktails and soft plastics. The jetty is also seeing a good amount of short fluke with a few keepers in the mix. The Ponquogue bridge has also seen striped bass on the night tides taking soft plastics. Fluke are around the bridge too and taking squid, spearing and gulp. Over at the Shinnecock canal anglers are finding, porgies to the northern end and fluke to the southern end. The morning and evenings there have been some schoolie bass and cocktail blues. The ocean beaches are seeing some striped bass on the night tides and a few bluefish during the days east of the inlet.
