Action HOT on Bunker Schools
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean
The most popular target this past week has been the striped bass. Huge schools of bunker are outside our inlet both east and west with big bluefish and big bass on them. You will need to work to find the right school but when you do hold on. Live lining the bunker is the best bait. Fifty pound bass have been caught and safely released. The fluke bite is slowly improving in the bay but you still need to move around alot to put fish in the box. The Ponquogue bridge area and the Shinnecock inlet are holding schoolie bass and bluefish.
Peconic
The porgies are the main course near Robins Island and Jessups Neck. Clam baits and chum are best. Weakfish have settled into their summer spots in the deeper holes and taking flags of squid on hi-lo rigs. Bluefish are a bycatch when targeting the porgies.
Shorebound
The Shinnecock inlet and the Ponquogue bridge have both been holding bluefish, striped bass and fluke. The Shinnecock canal has seen porgies, fluke, bluefish, striped bass and blowfish.
