Holiday Weekend Report
Despite the heat, people are still going fishing; and with some decent luck too.
The ocean fluke bite has been steadily getting better. The better bite has been to the east of the inlet in 60 to 90 feet of water. A high/low rig with spearing and 6" Gulp! grubs is the ticket here.
The seabass bite is excellent on the Shinnecock reef and other local wrecks and structure. Custom tied EEBT rigs tipped with spearing, squid, or clams is your best bet.
The Shinnecock inlet is holding a pretty good mixed bag. Fluke, porgy, seabass, triggerfish, and even a few stripers mixed in.
Striped bass are being taken at the Ponquogue bridge. Clam chumming during the day and eels and bucktails at night.
The Peconics are still loaded with porgies with snapper-blues mixed it too.
The Shinnecock canal is holding plenty of porgies and snappers. Poppers, spearing, squid, and clams all working. The locks will close at 9:30 on Friday, 10:30 on Sat. 11:30 on Sunday and 12:30 on Monday.
Have a happy and safe holiday weekend.
