Happy Independence Day
The fluke bite has been spotty this past week. The east cut, west cut, the basket and Rampasture all have fish; but most are shorts. Spearing and squid is your best choice for these guys. The ocean bite has only started to pick up this week with the warm temperatures. Most fish are in 60 to 80 feet and to the east of the inlet.
Striped bass up to 60 pounds are underneath the bunker schools out in the ocean anywhere from Shinnecock to Montauk Point. Find them boiling and throw in a snag.
The reef is loaded with seabass and there are a few porgies mixed in too. Clam and squid are working but spearing is the best.
The Ponquogue bridge is holding some good sized stripers as well. Anchored up with some clam chum is your best bet for the day and bucktails or rubber baits at night.
Porgies are still all over the Peconics as well as some weakfish mixed in.
The Shinnecock inlet has a nice mixed bag with striped bass, fluke, porgies, and even trigger fish; Yes they're here too.
Have a happy and safe holiday weekend.
