Shinnecock Fishing Report 7-11-21

Shinnecock

Prior to Elsa the fluke bite in the bay was decent west of Ponquogue bridge. The outgoing tides seemed better but at the turn of the tides with slower current seemed best. Elsa has set us back a bit with the dirty water but in a few days that should be cleaned up. The regular spearing, squid and gulp all working. Striped bass have not been as cooperative. The inlet is still producing a few fish with an occasional keeper and the same scenario at the bridge. The fish are taking drifted live baits. The weather has finally cooperated enough for some to get out to the Shinnecock Reef for some seabass. There are plenty of fish with some keepers mixed in. Better fish are taking jigs up off the bottom. The trigger fish are here and should be hanging near the buoy chains and structure.

Peconic

The summer pattern is starting to settle in in the Peconics. Warmer water temps push some fish east looking for cooler water. The porgy bite remains strong out near Rogers rock and Jessups Neck. Weakfish hanging in the deeper, cooler water off Long Beach and some of the holes around Roses Grove.

Shorebound

The Shinnecock canal has porgies north of the locks and fluke to the south. Heard of a few triggers in here too. The Shinnecock inlet has some striped bass taking bucktails in the dark along with some fluke and bluefish during the day. The Ponquogue bridge has fluke, porgies, schoolie striped bass and cocktail blues. Some of the back bay areas of Shinnecock bay are producing schoolie bass on soft plastics and surface plugs. The ocean beaches have seen a few bass taken on bait.
